And now the room is totally stripped.
Open, airy, rustic...
Half done? Hardly. There is much to do.
A look down into the chimney. This is the third chimney that appears to have no function.
A look up reveals it is bricked closed.
Here's a look up what appeared to be a duct to the upstairs. It stops because the window is in the way.
the look down is the return to the furnace.
This is the inside of the return duct. See the "Wire of No Purpose"?
Some items found in the wall on the south-west corner: makeup, a book, a library card, a mini-razor that really works.
This is Marie Egan's library card. Wonder if she's overdue on anything?
The book was printed in 1943 and originally released in 1937!
This wall hides the stairs and is coming down.
Look at that original wall color! The steps were also stained before they were painted over.
A stray phone line and a faded beige ceiling paint... ugh!
Everything made of fiber must go.
And now it's gone.
Here's a view into the dining room from the living room.
A return air duct off the dining room.
Here is some more junk found behind the wall near the stairs.
Bunsen watches from above the doorway.
Dining room hath no ceiling anymore.
The light fixture is the last to go.
Outer walls were especially hard to remove.
Saturday, June 21: stairway walls removed.
We initally stop here and decided to trim to the old walls. That changed.
This is the area of the roof just in front of the dormer.
It goes all the way across into the kneewall in the green room.
This insulation appears to be holding up.
This insulation is above the vestibule. Mouse poop and water damage denote a dirty job coming up.
July 6, 2003: Keith rips out the shelves and everything else.
The ceiling had been redone with drywall because of roof leaks. We also found a dead mouse and lots of mouse shit. I think he shit himself to death.
We now have an open view from the dining room.
