October 12: The final color; Del Coronado Amber
Two coats to hide any roller marks and cover thin spots.
Depending on the number of people helping, it took about an hour to hour-and-a-half to paint just the walls.
The ceiling is "Orange Pulp", a slightly off white.
The stairwell is semi-gloss ultra bright white.
The dining room is "Lafanda Tile Red".
It's like a terracotta color.
The rooms are getting closer to completion.
October 15: We pull a small section of carpet revealing the hardwood floors.
This is the original stain/varnish/coating.
October 16: All the carpet is removed and the floors look great.
The wood is Douglas Fir, the softest of the hardwoods.
Dining room floor looks just as good.
How can one cover this with carpet?
The next phase is refinishing.
The tile in the foyer must go.
It will either be refinished to wood or retiled. We haven't determined which.
The hearth in front of the fireplace must also go.
Bye, Hearth!
Under the tile is a concrete hearth with "grooves", painted three times, then leveled with cement before it was covered.
October 23: Sanding is complete. Natural wood.
The Douglas Fir is much lighter than it looked.
The orignal grain is gorgeous.
The sander finishes off the corners.
The first coat of oil-based poly is applied giving it a golden brown look.
This coat will mostly soak in and take about 5 hours to dry.
can you see the difference?
It goes well with the paint.
too bad much of it will get covered with a carpet.
October 24: The second coat is applied.
