The beginning: An old fuse panel and a sub-panel
Look at the kludge of wires above the ceiling.
It is a mess above the drop ceiling. It probably always will be.
The workers started with this.
They disconnected me from the service to start.
The electrician starts by ripping the old panel off.
Louis installed the ground wire and the sub-panel feed.
This is where the sub-panel will go in the garage.
The new panel is partially completed.
The drop wires are 0000 Aluminum rated at 200-250 amps.
Louis runs the 50 amp feed along the garage wall.
There's a double ground installed for redundancy.
The holes through which the cables run are huge.
Dramatic wire shot...
Here is the installed sub-panel.
The ground wire in the house attaches to the water pipes at the meter.
The ground is firmly attached to the pipes.
Code requires a jumper across the meter.
Remove the fuse panel and you have a mess of wires.
Close up.
Tim spent at least two hours wiring this box.
Here's the partially completed box at lunch break.
You can clearly see the main feed and the ground wire.
Here is the new panel almost connected. The main feed still must be attached.
Here's the old meter.
It reads 99249
Edison picked up the old meter on Friday, April 11.
Inside it was dated Dec. 26. 1939.
Look! The new meter was installed April 11, 2002.
This is the lowest the meter will ever read: 00001
